Jason Henry from Cambuslang has completed a year-long 5k challenge, raising funds for charity while getting fit and inspiring others along the way
Cambuslang: A local guy named Jason Henry just wrapped up an impressive challenge. He committed to running 5k every day for a whole year. Talk about dedication!
Jason wanted to get fit and raise money for two great causes: Strathcarron Hospice and the Scottish Association for Mental Health. So far, he’s raised £900 for each charity. How cool is that?
He shared that it wasn’t easy. Balancing work and family life while training was tough. But he was determined to help the hospice, especially since he grew up in Cumbernauld. Many people there have relied on Strathcarron’s support.
At first, he regretted his decision. January was brutal with the cold and rain, and he even hurt his knee. But he kept pushing through, reminding himself of the people he was helping.
To keep his spirits up, Jason joined running clubs and participated in local Park Runs. He even wore out three pairs of trainers! That’s some serious mileage.
One of his favorite moments was when his seven-year-old twins rode alongside him on their bikes during a summer run. He treated them to ice cream afterward. Sweet memories!
Another highlight was being a pacer for the Great Scottish Run. He felt honored to help other runners reach their goals. The support from the community has been heartwarming, too.
Jason is thrilled to have made a difference and is grateful for all the donations, even from folks he didn’t know. Strathcarron is close to his heart, and he’s proud of what he accomplished.
