Plans for new homes in Ashtead could boost local community and schools
If approved, about 40% of these homes will be affordable. Plus, there’s talk of a community center that could serve as a nursery. Local schools are currently underused, so this could help fill those empty spots.
John Tarvit from Wates is really enthusiastic about the project. He mentioned they want to create a vibrant community with plenty of green spaces. The goal is to make it a safe and inviting place for everyone.
They’re also aiming for a high-quality, eco-friendly development. All homes will be designed to reduce carbon emissions. The site is located south of Ermyn Way, and the council has already earmarked it for residential development.
The developers are committed to building a neighborhood that offers a variety of home sizes. They believe this will enhance the local community and provide much-needed housing.
In addition to homes, they plan to include a community building and 30 acres of open space with a play area for kids. The designs are still in the early stages, but they envision buildings up to three stories high, with most being two stories.
The area is currently farmland, but it’s close to Ashtead and Leatherhead, making it a convenient spot. Wates has even met with local schools to discuss the project.
They learned that schools in the area have room for more students, which is great news. The final layout will be worked out with the council, ensuring it fits well with the community.
