From February, 18 Surrey train stations will introduce contactless payments, making travel easier and faster for passengers across the region
Surrey: Exciting news for train travelers! Starting February 2, 18 train stations in Surrey will let you tap in and out. This means no more fumbling for tickets. Just tap your card and go!
This new system is all about making travel easier. It’s designed to be flexible and accessible for everyone. Plus, you’ll always get the best ticket price for your journey.
But that’s not all! By 2025, another 49 stations will join the contactless club. This includes London Stansted Airport, making it super easy to travel to all London airports.
Originally, these plans were set for last September. But a cyber security issue delayed everything. Now, starting February 2, 47 stations in the south east will be ready for contactless payments.
Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy mentioned that the old ticketing system was too complicated. With this new tech, passengers can simply tap in and out, ensuring they get the best fare available.
He added that this change will make thousands of daily journeys easier. They plan to expand this system to other cities soon, which is part of a bigger plan to improve the rail network.
Last summer, contactless tech was tested at six Chiltern stations. In just six months, over 268,000 entries and exits were made using contactless cards. Clearly, people love it!
Alex Williams from Transport for London said that contactless travel has become super popular in London. They’re thrilled to extend this convenience to more stations in Surrey.
This change will help travelers avoid the hassle of buying tickets in advance. It’s all about making rail travel easier and supporting the UK’s economic recovery.
So, mark your calendars for February 2! It’s a game-changer for train travel in Surrey.
