A popular Surrey beauty spot is getting a £70,000 upgrade for better toilets and more picnic areas, making it more enjoyable for everyone.
Surrey: A beautiful spot called Pierrepont Farm is getting a makeover. Thanks to a £70,000 grant, the area will see some much-needed improvements.
This 200-acre heathland is a favorite for walkers and cyclists. It’s also home to a dairy farm and a courtyard where local artisans sell their goods.
Walking paths connect to Fensham Pond and the River Wey, making it a lovely area to explore. The farm was gifted to the Countryside Regeneration Trust in 2006.
Funding from the Surrey Hills Access for All Fund is helping to make the site more accessible for everyone. The goal is to ensure everyone can enjoy the stunning landscapes.
Recently, the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People reviewed the site for accessibility. This helped identify what improvements are needed, like better paths and signage.
One exciting upgrade is turning the old carriage track into an accessible path. This will lead to a picnic area with beautiful views of the parkland and grazing animals.
Helena Darragh from CRT mentioned how lovely the walk down the carriage track is. She wants everyone to experience it, especially during spring and autumn.
Other upgrades include two designated disabled parking bays and improved toilet access at the Old Dairy Courtyard. These changes will make a big difference for visitors.
Rob Fairbanks from the Surrey Hills National Landscape expressed excitement about the project. He believes access to nature is crucial for our well-being.
The improvements are set to be finished by February 2025, just in time for spring. Visitors will soon enjoy fully accessible routes and facilities.
