Scots are warned of heavy snow this week, with South Lanarkshire among the areas likely to see up to 11 inches of snow. Stay prepared!
South Lanarkshire: The weather has been pretty mild lately, but that’s about to change. Scots are getting ready for some serious snow this week.
An Atlantic jet stream is rolling in, bringing strong winds and snow warnings for the west coast. Weather maps show that some areas could see up to 11 inches of snow.
On Thursday, snow is expected to hit the west coast, especially around Fort William and the Western Highlands. South Lanarkshire and the Borders will also get some snow.
As the weekend approaches, a big band of snow will move in from the southwest, covering much of Scotland by Friday morning. Expect snow in Stirling, Angus, and the Central Highlands, with Perthshire likely to see the heaviest snowfall.
By Saturday, the Central and West Highlands will be hit hard. Snowfall rates could reach 3cm per hour across the country.
On Sunday, the west coast will be blanketed in snow, stretching from Dumfries and Galloway to Glasgow and up to Ullapool.
Early Monday morning, just south of Edinburgh, snow will fall at a rate of 3cm per hour. The Cairngorms National Park could see a whopping 28cm (11 inches) of snow.
The Met Office predicts a shift to more unsettled weather, with rain and strong winds moving in from the southwest. While milder conditions are expected, there’s still a chance of colder air bringing more snow.
