Sara Sharif’s family is appealing their life sentences for her tragic murder, seeking justice in a heartbreaking case.
Sara was found dead at home after suffering terrible abuse. The trial revealed she endured unimaginable pain, including beatings and burns. Her uncle, Faisal Malik, was also jailed for allowing her death.
Now, all three are trying to appeal their sentences. This comes after calls to name judges involved in past family court cases about Sara.
Sara was discovered in a bunk bed on August 10, 2023. Her father confessed to police from Pakistan that he had beaten her “too much.” She had 71 fresh injuries, including broken bones and burns.
After her death, her family fled to Pakistan, booking flights just hours later. They returned to the UK on September 13, 2023, and were arrested right after landing at Gatwick Airport.
During sentencing, the judge said Sara’s death was the result of years of neglect and torture, mainly from her father. He emphasized how brave and spirited Sara was, despite the abuse she faced.
The judge also criticized Batool for not caring enough to protect Sara. He dismissed claims that Malik was too distracted to notice the abuse happening around him.
In a twist, Sharif was reportedly attacked in prison on New Year’s Day, suffering cuts to his neck and face.
