Surrey: The number of sex offenders in Surrey is going down. It’s now one of the lowest rates in England and Wales. As of March 2024, there are 847 registered offenders.

This means there’s one offender for every 1,266 people aged 10 and up. That’s a drop from 858 last year and down from a peak of 877 in March 2022. Pretty good news, right?

However, it’s still higher than 13 years ago. Back in 2010, there were only 464 registered offenders. For comparison, Hampshire has 2,352 offenders living there.

Overall, there are 70,052 sex offenders in England and Wales as of March 2024. That’s an increase from 68,357 the previous year. These numbers come from the Ministry of Justice.

Sex offenders must inform the police about their details. If anything changes, they need to notify the police again. Some areas have more offenders than others.

For instance, County Durham has 1,123 offenders, which is the highest concentration in the country. That’s about one for every 510 people aged 10 and older.

In contrast, Surrey and Hertfordshire have the lowest rates, with one offender for every 1,266 people. London has one for every 1,099, while Hampshire has one for every 769.

Surrey’s rate is 79 offenders per 100,000 people, which is almost half the national average of 131. So, things are looking better in Surrey!
