A Govan carer has been dismissed for misusing a service user’s bank card at a betting shop and petrol station, raising serious concerns about trust.
He borrowed £100 from a service user’s mother and never paid it back. Then, he took £60 from the service user’s account for personal use. On the same day, he spent £20 at a betting shop.
The next day, he used the card again to fill up his car, costing £42.56. The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) called his actions financially abusive and dishonest. They said he really let down the standards expected from a social service worker.
Cathro didn’t show any remorse or try to make things right. He didn’t even engage with the investigation. Although he had a clean record before this, his actions were a serious breach of trust. The notice about his dismissal took effect on January 22.
