Glasgow is set to roll out 1,200 new bin hubs, improving waste management and recycling across the city.
These hubs will help keep the streets cleaner and improve recycling. They’re moving bins from back courts to the streets, which has already shown better recycling results in trial areas.
The council has been testing these hubs in places like Pollokshields and Finnieston. Now, they’re looking at spots in Govan, Cardonald, and Ibrox for the new hubs.
The company Broxap will supply the hubs, and they should start appearing around April or May. Originally, the budget was set at £4.6 million, but they managed to get it for just £2.48 million.
Each hub will hold four large bins and one for food waste. Some councillors raised concerns about the quality, but officials assured them that they did their homework on the supplier.
There were some hiccups during the trials, like issues with rat traps and bin openings. But the new hubs will include bait boxes, which is a plus.
The council is still figuring out the best designs for the bins. They’ve noticed that recycling quality is much better with these hubs compared to back courts.
They’re also keeping an eye on any litter around the hubs, but it’s mostly manageable. Overall, this is a step forward for Glasgow’s waste management!
