A Glasgow pharmacist has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager during a consultation at his pharmacy
The girl went in for a personal medical issue. Azam asked for a photo of her problem first. Then he insisted on examining her without gloves, claiming there was a “supply issue.”
After being found guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Azam’s career is likely over. He also made inappropriate comments to another woman during a previous exam.
This married father of four had worked as a pharmacist for 18 years. At the time, he was managing the pharmacy in Nitshill.
He told the girl it was “more common” to diagnose from a photo due to the “sensitivity” of her issue. When she said she didn’t have a picture, he decided to “have a look” instead. He claimed she consented.
During the exam, he touched her inappropriately. Azam told the jury there was “no physical contact” except for when she sat down. He also made a sleazy comment to her.
In court, he accused the victim of lying about the incident. Azam had previously worked at a Boots pharmacy in Edinburgh, where a woman reported similar inappropriate behavior.
Fiscal Kyle Dalziel pointed out how unlikely it was for two women from different places to accuse him of such behavior. Azam simply replied, “Yes.”
The judge, Sheriff Joan Kerr, has deferred sentencing until next month. He’s now on the sex offenders register but was granted bail in the meantime.
