Residents in Glasgow express concerns that local coffee shops may struggle with a new Starbucks opening nearby
Glasgow: A new Starbucks is on the way in the southside, and folks are worried. They think it might hurt the small, cozy coffee shops already there.
Starbucks has put in a planning application for a spot on Grange Road. It’s right near M&S Food and across from the Battlefield Rest restaurant. They even put up a sign saying, “We can’t wait to meet you!”
But many locals aren’t thrilled. They love their little coffee shops and fear a big chain will take away their charm. One person said, “We need to support local shops, not this big company.”
Another added, “There’s no need for a chain when we have so many great local options. Please don’t just go to Starbucks.”
Some residents are really worried about the impact on their favorite spots. They feel that the arrival of Starbucks could mean tough times for these independent cafes.
The council has already approved longer opening hours for Starbucks, allowing them to operate from 7 am to 10 pm daily. They even got the green light for a shop fit-out last year.
It’s clear that the community is passionate about their local coffee scene. They want to keep it thriving, even with a big player like Starbucks moving in.
