A Glasgow couple has successfully overturned a council decision to build an extension, despite local objections and concerns about the conservation area.
People worried about losing a chimney and how it would change the views. They also thought it might hurt the Scotstoun conservation area. But the planning committee saw things differently.
They decided to let the two-story extension happen. One council member pointed out that the family loves living in this “beautiful” area. Councillor Paul Leinster backed the family, saying it’s important to help people stay in their homes.
He liked that they plan to use stone that fits in with the neighborhood. Plus, they’ll have to use matching slate roof tiles. Councillor Jill Pidgeon agreed, saying it’s great to let families expand their homes.
Councillor Eva Bolander also supported the plan. She mentioned the housing crisis and how we need more family homes in the city. Councillor Saqib Ahmed added that this family likely needs more space and wants to stay in the area.
In the end, all the councillors agreed to grant the Andersons’ application, but with some conditions. Last year, the council had refused it, saying it would hurt the special character of the conservation area. But now, they’ve changed their minds, and the family can move forward with their plans.
