Storm Éowyn is set to bring strong winds to Glasgow, with a red weather warning in effect. Here’s what to expect hour by hour.
This warning means there’s a “danger to life.” It covers all of Glasgow and nearby areas. Expect dangerous conditions and possible damage to buildings. Roofs might get blown off, and power lines could go down.
Winds will start picking up around 2 AM Friday. They’ll be strongest in the early afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 88 mph in the city center. Average wind speeds will be around 36 mph.
If you’re outside the city, the coast could see gusts up to 100 mph in parts of Argyll and Bute. Just to give you an idea, winds were only about 16 mph on Thursday morning.
The red warning is active from 10 AM to 5 PM on Friday. An amber warning will also be in place from 1 PM Friday to 6 AM Saturday. The Met Office warns of flying debris, power cuts, and travel disruptions.
Glasgow will also have a yellow warning for wind from 6 AM to midnight on Friday. This will continue into Saturday and Sunday. A yellow snow warning for Friday has been lifted, but it still applies to Argyll and Bute.
Stay safe and keep an eye on the weather updates as Storm Éowyn approaches!
