Roadworks are underway between Guildford and Godalming, causing delays with temporary traffic lights expected for the next two months
This project, called the Guildford to Godalming Greenway, aims to create safer and better routes for everyone. It’s all about making it easier for folks to walk, cycle, and enjoy the outdoors. Plus, it’s a great way to boost health and well-being by encouraging more physical activity.
The council got feedback from the public back in late 2021, and people were really supportive of these plans. The first phase of work started on January 13, focusing on the A3100 road. They’re widening the footpath to make it a shared space for cyclists and pedestrians.
To make things safer, they’ll be adding a signal crossing near Tilthams Corner Road and some raised road tables at the entrances to local spots like the Guildford Rugby Club.
For the next couple of months, expect those temporary traffic lights on the A3100 until March 16. There might be some overnight road closures, but they’ll keep everyone updated with signs on-site.
This is just the first phase, with more work planned for later in 2025. They haven’t set those dates yet, but they’ll share them soon.
So, what’s happening in this first phase? They’re extending the shared path along the A3100, adding signalised crossings, and improving routes to local schools. They’re also working on a new path through Broadwater Park to connect Farncombe with the main route.
There are plans to upgrade the Dagley Lane section too, making it easier to navigate, especially when it’s wet. They’ve already completed a new path north of the Dagley Lane bridge and are looking to extend it further.
Maps showing the changes are available, highlighting the different phases of the project. It’s an exciting time for cycling and walking in the area!
