Eastwood: So, there’s been a bit of a hold-up with the new leisure centre and theatre plans. The council was supposed to meet on January 22, but that meeting got canceled. Now, they’re looking to reschedule it for next month.

A council spokesperson mentioned they needed to publicize the meeting properly. They had high hopes for this project, which would replace the old Eastwood Park centre. It’s a big deal, and they think it could really change the area.

Back in 2022, they had a different plan, but costs shot up due to inflation and interest rates. The current proposal is for a £56 million facility, which includes a big swimming pool, a training pool, and a games hall. Plus, there’s a theatre with a 364-seat auditorium.

Some folks from St Ninian’s High School aren’t too happy about it. They’re worried about parking and safety for the kids. But Eastwood MSP Jackson Carlaw believes there’s a real need for this new facility. The council thinks it could make a huge difference for Eastwood Park and the whole area.
